2D TO 3D PROJECTS
I have a degree in furniture design and would consider myself to be a proficient carpenter and joiner. I have great practical knowledge when it comes to designing furniture, from campervan & motorhome furniture, sheds, cabinetry, arcade machines and general woodwork. Alongside this I am able to programme and operate 3 axis CNC machines, diode / CO2 laser cutters and 3D printers.
During my employment I have gained experience in software such as Autocad,Vcarve & Aspire for CNC programming & design along with Lightburn for laser cutting and engraving. My knowledge of Illustrator was greatly beneficial for these types of software due to the ability to design vectors, export as an EPS then create toolpaths for the machinery.
FURNITURE DESIGN
In 2020 I was employed as a CNC furniture designer and workshop manager for a company called Convert Campervans, I was responsible for designing, manufacturing and fitting bespoke furniture to a range of vans and motorhomes. This was a hugely rewarding job and I got to work alongside some talented vehicle technicians. I was managing the woodwork workshop with a small team underneath me. Unfortunately the company went into administration in 2023 and I had to seek employment elsewhere.
Below are some examples of the furniture, kitchens and products I have been responsible for designing manufacturing and installing during my time at Convert Campervans.
PRODUCT DESIGN
I have covered a fair amount of product design under my graphic design section, displaying a range of product mock ups and label design. I am also capable of designing and manufacturing wooden products using a laser cutter and software.
Using Illustrator and Lightburn together I am able to design detailed parts and customise materials such as slate, acrylic and wood. I have attached some of the projects completed whilst currently being employed at VCL Products.
3D DESIGN
I am proficient in Sketch Up, Cinema 4D, Zbrush and have a good understanding of Blender a free open source 3D software. Using Illustrator I am able to use 2D vector designs I create and turn them into 3D components, this can be a great way to problem solve any issues prior to manufacturing and provide a concept before any building work is undertaken.
My 3D animation skills are a bit rusty as this is something that has not really been required by my current employers. If you require some evidence of 3D animation however I will happily create an example to send over as part of my application. Below are a few examples of some 3D models I have created.
CONCEPT TO CREATION
As an overview, I am able to use a wide range of software to assist in the processes of creating a product for manufacturing. My graphic design skill set comes hand in hand with most 2D drawing software and I have practical skills alongside with manufacturing experience in programming and operating 3 axis CNC machines and Laser cutters.
